I know it's late and there aren't many people on right now, but I'm asking anyways. I ran across a '72 240Z the other day when I was perusing Craigslist.

The owner seems extremely nice, judging by his texts and emails. I texted him at 7:30 in the morning on Tuesday and he responded within the minute. As you guys know, that is unprecedented behavior for Craigslist. He seems like a straight shooter and was willing to answer any questions I had.
I asked him for pictures of any rust on the car and he had them in my inbox no more than a minute after I requested them. Here are all the rust pictures. Hopefully they work. Kinja be kind.
The rust doesn't look too extensive. Nothing that would scare me after owning a rust bucket '73 Baja Bug. I want to learn how to do bodywork so this could be a great platform for me. Floor pans and frame rails very recently replaced so that's a selling point.
What do you guys think? I'm most likely going to check it out on Saturday. I'm going to bring my dad and a wad of cash with me in case I decide to buy it. Let me know!
EDIT: I got hella kinja'd. pics coming in a second. Bare with me, folks.

Doesn't look too bad. I'm assuming it runs, right?
Get under it and check the suspension out while you're there (especially if you plan on driving it home). You don't want to discover some kind of steering/handling problem while you're on the way back home. Mt. Vernon doesn't seem like a far drive from St. Louis, but it may feel a lot longer if the car's handling is sketchy.
If you really have the itch to get into an early Z, you could do a lot worse than this one. Just check it out thoroughly. Be sure you check the other rusty spots.

I think I will! I have the day free and its about 45 minutes away. There are literally no Z cars for sale in my are so it's tempting.
My original plan was to save about 9 grand, find a clean example somewhere in the south and drive it home, but this one is SO close to me and I don't mind doing some work on my cars. If it checks out, I'll be bringing it home!

I definitely will be checking it out extensively. Mt. Vernon is about an hour or so from St. Louis, where I live, so it wouldn't be a bad drive.
It does run. The owner says he drives it to work about 3 or 4 times a week so that sounds promising. Pretty much my only criteria for a Z is that it runs and that it doesn't have too much rust.
I've got the Z bug really bad, but I know what to look out for. If it's not what I want, I'll have to turn it down, unfortunately.

LOVE those 240s. It's totally worth a look, especially if you're up to doing the body work on the rust yourself!
Oh, to have a 240Z...

You know, that thing seems pretty darn nice for the asking price. I rarely ever see these around anymore (maybe once a year). I think they all were returned back to the Earth in the form of rust.
I'd say yes, take a look and if the pictures aren't hiding anything, that one's a keeper.

You said you wanted a clean example? shameless plug for my co-workers Z. If you think the other guy was honest you'll love Jeff's 50+ photos of the car. Albeit it's a 280.

Haha I'm going to take a gander tomorrow! If everything checks out, I'll be the proud owner of a 240!
